Can’t decide where to rent your next 7 Days to Die server? Here are my top things to consider when making your choice.
- Price
- Extra Costs
- World Generation
- Server Suggestions

Price
How much should you pay for a server? Well, that really depends on how many players you need to fit on it.
The lowest-priced package I have seen recently is a 10 player server for just £7.50/$9.48.
This seems to be a good starting price point and most companies are very competitively matched on price.
What comes with a basic server package?
- Instant Setup
- DDoS Protected
- TCAdmin Control Interface
- 24/7 Support
- Standard 5-8GB of allocated RAM
- Satisfaction Guarantee
If you want to increase the size of your server or expand the map generation you will need to invest in more RAM. World generation is typically limited to 8 – 10 KM with 8GB RAM. Companies will charge around £4/$5 for each extra 4GB of RAM.
I have added a list to show you the amount of RAM you need in regards to world generation.
- 8 – 10 KM = 5-8GB RAM (Standard allocation)
- 10 – 14KM = 12GB RAM
- 14 – 16KM = 16GM RAM
If you are only going to run a small world then don’t worry about paying extra for a RAM upgrade. It’s not essential. Most companies will just try to up-sell this.
First-person games like 7DTD and Arma 3 require a lot of resources in comparison to other titles due to the fast nature of rule-keeping. A central server needs to keep up with the human and non-human players’ actions to work out health and positions.
Other players Advice
Asking other players for advice is a great way to source unbiased opinions about game hosting companies.
There are loads of different ways you can find advice from other players including:
On public servers
Join plenty of public servers and try to talk to the server owner or admins.
They will have first-hand experience renting from a provider.
If you’re friendly and ask for help they may be willing to share their experience and give you advice.
Friends
Do you have any friends that have rented a 7 Days to Die server? Ask your friends that own the game and see if they have owned one personally or know anyone that has. This is a great way to obtain unbiased opinions about server providers.
Steam community
The Steam Community is a great place to ask for advice.
Many of the 7DTD server hosting companies already have open threads where other users have commented and discussed their experiences.
If you can’t find a thread about your chosen company, then why not start one and see who replies.
Review Websites
User review websites can be hit or miss as some shady hosting companies like to make up fake reviews to boost their overall scores.
Use them as a starting point, but I would always check additional sources before committing to a purchase.
Social Media
Facebook, Twitch, Instagram and Twitter are all fantastic places to connect with other people.
You can often find other gamers or groups related to 7 Days To Die that has information about who and why they have chosen a certain server.
Avoid “Comparison” sites
In the last 5 years, I have seen lots of “comparison sites” appear within the game server hosting industry. They may seem to be helpful on the surface but I have seen that many of them have a very shady way of working. The site will prioritize certain hosts in order to make a better affiliate payout.
While it’s great that you can easily compare hosts and quickly get prices. These sites are lacking in quality. They are a great resource for comparing prices, but I would be very wary of their recommendations because of the paid incentives they receive.
